Learning through a Lifetime of Intuition

I believe children are capable of learning anything as long as they are open to it. Every child is capable of being intuitive. I know I was to a small degree. What I've learned over the years, through testing and experience, is that intuition is a skill. Like any skill, you become more effective with practice.

However, I didn’t always know this. I grew up in a conservative area—the second-most Republican county in America—so no one talked about intuition. Conversations centered on concrete topics.  Because I grew up in a Catholic family, my family kiddingly called my ways of knowing things, “Karen’s direct pipeline to God.” They asked me to find lost keys and other objects, and I used my “pipeline” to locate them.

Another thing I could do was teach my way of "knowing" things" to others. On weekends, my father enjoyed the horse races and he would take me along. I can remember being 10 years old and teaching one of my girlfriends to “feel” which horse wanted to win the most. That day, she and I picked the winners in the first seven races, came in second in the eighth, and won again in the ninth – no betting – it was just a game between girlfriends.

As a teenager, I ignored my intuition for two reasons. First, on the rare occasions when I "knew" something bad was going to happen to someone, I worried that I caused it. Of course, now I know differently.  And second, my faith taught that I could have no connection to spirituality or divine knowledge without being completely faithful to my family's religion. At the time, I was deeply saddened this happened. Later in life I learned it was a blessing in disguise. Because I've had to face these fears around intuition, I'm able to help others overcome them in their lives.

Intuition Pushes Me in the Right Direction

I grew up, earned two college degrees in Business, and worked my way up to division director in a multi-million-dollar “500” company. Sometimes our lives are guided by circumstance: My company recorded and produced tapes on spirituality, health, meditation, and…intuition.

As the head of the conference division, I met with leading authors and speakers in the fields of spirituality and intuition. One day I shared a meal with an intuitive I had met at a conference. She defied the stereotypes. She didn’t dress like a fortune-teller. She wasn't a vegetarian. And in middle of ordering, she correctly diagnosed a health problem in our waitress.  It was a life-defining moment for me.

How I Reconnected with My Intuition

The intuitive’s insight and accuracy amazed me. Her normal manner reassured me. I recalled all my childhood knowings, and I had to discover more. My job came in handy. I tracked down and read or listened to everything on the field I could find. I talked to the experts at conferences to gain their knowledge. A colleague even suggested to me a simple method for tapping more deeply into my own intuition.

My first intuitive consultation was impromptu. I was talking to the conference director at another company over the phone. Although he was 500 milles away, I clearly "saw" the image of the Greek god Atlas bearing the world on his shoulders. I pushed the image aside, afraid to share it, but it came back again and again. Finally, I told him what I was seeing and asked him if he had shoulder problems. He told me that, yes, although he was only 26, he had bursitis in both shoulders.

Encouraged by my friends, I began to do more “readings” or intuitive consultations. I discovered that there is a mind-body connection, and often times the physical manifestations of disease can be solved by making effective changes in one’s life. Naturally, I still kept my day job because I was skeptical of the feedback I received from people: Was my intuition really accurate or were they just being “nice?”

Guiding Medical Diagnoses with Intuitive Insight

One day after I had completed an intuitive consultation for an acquaintance, her physician called. I tensed up immediately. Was she going to tell me I had harmed this person and given them inaccurate advice?

It turns out that the doctor was impressed. She assured me that the insight I had given her patient was correct. Bolstered by this news, we decided to work together. She asked me to perform intuitive consultations for twenty of her patients. I would only have two pieces of information: their names and ages.

At first, I procrastinated. This was my first real test as an intuitive. At last I performed the consultations, only to have my doubt reinforced because several months passed with no response from the doctor. One day the pressure welled up and I couldn’t take it anymore. I called and left her a voicemail. Later that night she called me back and told me that my insights had been incredibly helpful. She went through each of the 20 people with me and verified that I had given accurate emotional, mental, and at times spiritual information.

My physical diagnoses amazed me the most. From toenail fungus to AIDS, my intuition had correctly diagnosed nearly everything—even though I was thousands of miles away and only knew her patients’ names and ages. Though encouraged, I knew I still needed practice. I began to work with a local physician. As we worked together, he verified that using only a name and age, I could diagnose patients with 80-90% accuracy every time.

Helping Others Find their Intuition

From that day on, I knew that I wanted to work as a “health intuitive.” I prefer the term “health” to “medical” for two reasons. First, medical doesn’t really encompass the four levels of health: emotional, mental, spiritual and physical. Second, the word “health” is a more desirable and attainable goal than "medical."

I completed a Master’s Degree in Intuition and Energy Medicine (now known as "Integrative Medicine"). Caroline Myss, the most renowned medical intuitive in the world, holds her PhD in this field and suggested my coursework.

After many years of providing intuitive consultations as a full-time health intuitive, the feedback from clients, peers, associates, and medical professionals continues to reassure me. I initially offered only health consultations, but as I developed my intuitive skills, I began to offer intuitive consultations for career guidance, relationships, business, finance, real estate, and even animals.

I also enjoy teaching and writing. I remember rejecting my intuition as a child, then struggling to regain it decades later. Today, I take pride in teaching others to reconnect with their intuition and gain personal intuitive insights. I also wrote a best-selling book, Health Intuition: A Simple Guide to Well-Being, with a foreward by Caroline Myss, that earned praise from readers, critics, and health care practitioners.

Sincerely,

Karen doubted her intuition for years before fully embracing her potential and using her wisdom to help others.

"Through an intuitive skill that she has developed with dignity and devotion, she provides profound insights for her clients. Her work has been compared to Caroline Myss, because she is able to connect to a holistic awareness of the body, considering the relationship between the physical-emotional-spiritual."
